Since we are currently in a society wherein new media is emerging, it is essential for every person to exhibit literacy. The increase application of social media urges people to involve themselves with the trend, which may give rise to problems regarding online news. Spreading news without examining its credibility would lead to misunderstandings, knowing that what you preach to the public will be seen worldwide. That is why the idea of media and information literacy is useful and important to everyone to be able to engage with media and information effectively.
Despite the fact that different forms of media like books, newspapers, or even online media platforms provide information about the world we are in, it is not asserted that the data an individual gathers is accurate. Users should evaluate information critically, respect boundaries, privacy or intellectual property and display integrity. The use of media may or may not afflict harm to netizens, depending on how they utilize these. Experiences of some people with media like cyber bullying and bashing must be taken into consideration, by doing so, there will be less chances of undergoing certain problems such as those that are mentioned above.
“People are free to share whatever they like online: It’s down to us as users to improve our media literacy and to be conscious consumers of information rather than just believe everything that we read, see or hear”
Rachel Evans
